Dr Yap Boon Kah is the founder and Clinical Director of the practice. He focuses on dental implants, orthodontics and Invisalign cases.
Dr Yap Boon Kah was born in 1969. He received his secondary education at Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur. He was admitted into the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery in 1993. He received his early training in the civil service in Singapore, and left for private practice 3 years later. He founded Yap & Associates Dental Surgery in Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur in 1997. Dr Yap received training in hospital based dentistry, trauma management and emergency dentistry while in service with the Health Ministry in Singapore.
Dr Yap strives to do his best for his patients. It is for this reason that he received additional training in implantology and orthodontics. The practice grew from a one man show with a single chair, to one with five chairs, three doctors and four assistants. It is now one of the most modern in the city. Emphasis now is on cosmetic dentistry and full mouth rehabilitation, due to ever increasing patient demands and awareness. Dr Yap consistently attends retraining courses in implantology and also courses in current cosmetic procedures. Dr Yap was a participant in the Certificate in Implantology Course (University of Frankfurt) when he inserted his first dental implant under the guidance of Professor Nentwig in 2004.He attended multiple implant training courses and inserted many implants over the years using Bicon, Osstem and Ankylos implants. He is now a regular user of Osstem TS3 Implants. Focus now is on computer guided implant surgery, where CAD CAM implant surgical guides, fabricated with the help of CBCT scans and intra oral scanning, are produced to make surgeries error free and implants placed in perfect angulation and symmetry.
Dr Yap received his early training in orthodontics from the Clinical Foundation of Orthopaedics and Orthodontics, USA (1996-1999).He currently uses Self Ligating Fixed Appliance like Adenta, Damon and Empower.His treatment also involves the use of Removable Appliances and Headgear therapy to correct facial orthopaedic problems. He is certified as an Invisalign Doctor and attends regular meetings for Invisalign in the region. He is one of the earliest to be certified as an Invisalign Trained Doctor in Malaysia.
Latest trends in dentistry demand instant fabrication of veneers and crowns. Dr Yap is now deeply involved in the latest trend of preparing CAD CAM crowns and veneers. Patients can expect their EMax dental veneers and crowns to be ready within hours, thanks to digital 3D CAD CAM machines that can accurately mill a crown within minutes. This is especially useful for our patients who are tourists or living overseas, as they can come in for their dental work during their short stopovers in Kuala Lumpur.
